The Congress party is considering Ishrat Jahan, a former municipal councillor, as a potential candidate for the Okhla constituency in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Jahan had been jailed for two years under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots, but was granted bail in March 2022. A Delhi court found no evidence linking her directly to the riots. Jahan, daughter-in-law of former Congress MP Parvez Hashmi, expressed interest in contesting after being approached by Congress leaders. Ariba Khan, daughter of former Congress MLA Asif Muhammad Khan and a 2022 Delhi civic polls winner, is also in the race for the Okhla seat. This constituency has been held by Amanatullah Khan of the AAP since 2015. Meanwhile, Tahir Hussain, another Delhi riots accused, has been nominated by AIMIM to contest from the Mustafabad constituency, which has a Muslim majority.
