The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) welcomed the Supreme Court’s interim order on the Places of Worship Act, 1991, which imposed restrictions on registering new suits, passing effective judgments, or ordering surveys in ongoing cases related to mosques and shrines. AIMPLB spokesperson S.Q.R. Ilyas criticized local courts for undermining the Act by issuing orders on such matters. The Supreme Court’s order halts any final decisions and survey orders, clarifying that civil courts cannot override the apex court’s rulings. The Board hopes this order will curb malicious activities targeting religious sites and urges the court to expedite a final ruling.
