Darul Uloom Deoband has strongly opposed the proposed amendments to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. During a meeting with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), Maulana Arshad Madani expressed concerns about the bill’s impact on the safety of Muslim places of worship, particularly historical mosques. He highlighted the difficulty in identifying the original Waqifs of these sites after centuries. The seminary submitted a 22-point memorandum, urging equitable governance across all religious institutions. JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal acknowledged Darul Uloom’s input, which will be thoroughly reviewed. The bill has sparked widespread opposition from various Muslim organizations.
