A Delhi court granted seven days of interim bail to former JNU student Umar Khalid on December 18 to attend a family wedding. Khalid, accused in the alleged larger conspiracy behind the February 2020 northeast Delhi riots, was granted this relief by Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai. This follows the court’s earlier rejection of Khalid’s bail application in May, which was based on delays in trial proceedings and parity with co-accused who were released on bail. Khalid’s interim bail allows him temporary reprieve amidst ongoing legal proceedings related to the conspiracy case linked to the riots.
